Hoods and air

Hoods and dining-room air

A kitchen that can't exhaust or can't bring air back in runs hot and smoky, and a dining room that doesn't cool empties early in August.

Signs you need us

  • The hood doesn't pull, or smoke drifts into the dining room

  • The kitchen runs hot even with the fans on

  • The dining room never reaches its set temperature

  • Doors are hard to open because the building is under negative pressure

  • A fan squeals, rattles or smells of hot rubber

  • A rooftop unit short-cycles or ices up

At the visit

What happens when we arrive

  1. 01

Step 1: We check the air

Fan rotation, belt, motor, filters and what the building is doing to the air.

  2. 02

Step 2: We find the cause

Capacitors, contactors, belts, bearings, controls or refrigerant, in the order that rules things out fastest.

  3. 03

Step 3: We quote it in writing

The part, the labor and any roof access or lift that the job needs.

  4. 04

Step 4: We test it running

We watch the unit run through its cycle and leave notes for your manager.

The quote

What drives the cost

Every quote is in writing before work starts, with the equipment model, what's included and how long the quote holds. These are the things that move it.

  • Roof access

A ladder, a hatch or a lift changes the job.

  • Unit size and age

Tonnage and age decide parts and whether repair makes sense.

  • The failed part

A belt is a small job; a compressor is not.

  • Refrigerant

The type the system uses and how much is needed.

  • Parts on the truck

A part we carry is a same-visit fix.

  • Hours

Work on a rooftop unit during service hours may need an agreed window.

Questions about this work

Do you clean kitchen hoods and ducts?

No. Hood and duct cleaning is a separate service. We repair fans, belts, motors and make-up air.

Do you service rooftop units?

Yes. We repair and maintain them and quote replacements in writing.

Can you balance the kitchen and the dining room?

We check the air the fans move and what the building does with it, and tell you what we find. A design change is quoted separately.

Is it worth a plan?

The whole-kitchen plan includes the fans over the line. The plan page lists exactly what is covered.

Kitchen running hot?

Call the line or send the form. We will tell you what we think it is and when we can be there.
