What to do while the truck is on the way
The next few minutes decide how much stays in the box. None of this replaces the call.
Before we arrive
- Keep the door shut. Every opening lets in warm, wet air.
- Read the thermometer and write down the temperature and the time.
- Move dairy, seafood and raw meat first, to a cooler that is still working, and keep them cold.
- Don't pour hot water on ice or frost, and don't chip it.
- Take a photo of the condensing unit's nameplate and text it to the emergency line.
What stays and what goes
That is your health department's decision, not ours. Cold food is generally held at 41 degrees Fahrenheit or below under the FDA Food Code. Your written temperature and time are what your inspector will ask for.

What an after-hours call costs
The line is open at all hours, and a call at 2 a.m. is not billed like a call at 2 p.m.
The rate is stated first
Calls between 5 p.m. and 7 a.m., on weekends and on holidays carry an after-hours rate. The technician who answers states it before a truck leaves.
You can say no
If the call can wait for morning, we schedule it and no after-hours rate applies. If it can't, you decide with the number in front of you.
Parts are quoted separately
The after-hours rate covers the visit. Parts and refrigerant are quoted in writing, as at any other hour.

Response time by parish
Printed times are for calls placed on the emergency line. A storm, a flooded street or a closed bridge can change them, and the dispatcher says so when the call is answered.

- Jefferson Parish: Old Jefferson, Harvey, Bridge City, Waggaman, Crown Point · On site within 2 hours
- St. Bernard and Plaquemines: Violet, Belle Chasse · Usually within 3 hours; the time is given on the call

- St. Tammany Parish: Covington, Madisonville, Abita Springs · Usually within 3 hours, and longer when the Causeway backs up; the time is given on the call
We don't take emergency calls past Luling or east of Abita Springs on the north shore; for those, we say so on the first call.
