Walk-ins
Walk-in coolers and freezers
The walk-in is where the week's food lives, so we treat a warm box as an emergency until the temperature says otherwise.
Signs you need us
The thermometer reads higher than it did yesterday
Ice builds on the evaporator or around the door
Water pools under the box or drips from the ceiling
The compressor runs all day and never shuts off
The door doesn't pull shut, or the gasket is torn
The box smells of wet cardboard or has a film on the walls

At the visit
What happens when we arrive
- 01
Step 1: We read the box
The temperature, your log, the door, the gasket and the heater wire, before anything is opened up.
- 02
Step 2: We find the cause
The evaporator fan, defrost, condenser, charge and controls, in the order that rules things out fastest.
- 03
Step 3: We quote it in writing
The part, the labor and what else we saw, before we order or install anything.
- 04
Step 4: We fix it and test it
We stay until the box is pulling down and the defrost has run, and write the reading in your log.
The quote
What drives the cost
Every quote is in writing before work starts, with the equipment model, what's included and how long the quote holds. These are the things that move it.
The box
Size, indoor or outdoor condensing unit, and what shape the panels are in.
The failed part
A fan motor is a different job from a compressor or a coil.
Refrigerant
The type the system uses and how much is needed to restore it.
Access
Roof, alley, a tight mechanical closet or a loading dock.
Parts on the truck
A part we carry is a same-visit fix; one we order adds a day or more.
Hours
After-hours calls carry the rate quoted when the call is answered.
Questions about this work
Do you replace a walk-in, or only repair it?
We repair, replace the refrigeration system and replace door hardware and gaskets. A new walk-in box is a separate project; we'll tell you who builds them.
Can you fix it without emptying the box?
Usually, yes. If the box has to be emptied or moved to another cooler, we say so before we start.
Is a monthly check worth it?
It's where most failing seals, fans and drains turn up before they stop the box. The plan page lists what the check covers and what it costs.
What should I have ready when I call?
The box's temperature, the time you read it, and a photo of the condensing unit's nameplate if you can send one.
Walk-in running warm?
Call the emergency line and a technician answers. In Orleans and Jefferson parishes the nearest truck is on site within 2 hours.
